New Delhi: Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has wreaked havoc at the box office. Not even 2 weeks have passed since the movie’s release and it is already the second-highest Hindi grosser of the year.
Even after its 2-weeks-long successful theoretical run, the Anil Sharma directorial is expected to carry its buzz and maintain momentum in the third week as well.
In its 13-day long box office Journey, the Ameesha Patel staree action drama has minted a whopping sum of ₹419 crore in the domestic market. As per early estimates, The movie is expected to do a decent business of ₹.10 crore at the box office on its 14th day as well.
Considering that the much-awaited sequel of Sunny Deol’s 2001 blockbuster Gadar: ek prem katha has been made with a relatively small budget of ₹ 60 crore, Gadar 2’s entry in rs 400 crore club has made it one of the most profitable Hindi movies of 2023.
Speaking about the same with News 18, the movie’s director Anil Sharma stated that although we have made Gadar 2 with a small budget of ₹60 crores, people are taking about ₹ 600 crore films.
Previously, Anil also revealed that Sunny Deol reduced his fee in order to keep the movie’s budget under control. He also informed that the movie’s team have avoided using any VFX in order to cut down the blockbuster production cost.
Gadar 2 chases SRK’s Pathan
As of now, Gadar 2 is a monster at the Indian box office and is only next to Shah Rukh Khan’s January release Pathan whose domestic BO collection stands at a towering total of ₹543.50 crores.
However, as Tara Singh returned to the big screens after 22 years with a bang, smashing numerous box office one after the other, the likelihood of Gadar 2 dethroning Pathan to become the biggest Bollywood flick at the domestic box office is looking very much possible.
Ayushman Khurana to stop Gadar 2 from becoming the biggest movie of 2023?
After successfully crushing its competitor OMG 2, Gadar 2 had a two-week-long smooth run at the box office. However, the equation is bound to change soon as after Akki’s OMG 2, Ayushmaan Khurana’s Dream Girl 2 is all set to act as a hurdle in Gadar 2’s quest to become the biggest movie of 2023.
Dream Girl 2, which is a sequel to Ayushmaan Khurana’s 2019 super hit comedy flick Dream Girl is prepared to arrive in the theaters tomorrow and given tough competition to Gadar 2, which still needs to earn at least Rs 140 crore in order to outdo Patha.
While the previous movie featured Nushrat Bharucha as the lead actress, Dream Girl 2 has Gen Z actress Ananya Pandy as the lead actress of the movie.
