Jailer box office collection: From dethroning PS 2 to breaching Rs 400 crore mark in a week, here are 5 major BO records broken by Rajnikanth’s actioner

Helmed by skilled director Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer marks Rajnikanth’s comeback to the cinemas after a long gap of two years.

New Delhi: One week is all that it took for Thalaiva’s Jailer to become one of the highest Tamil grosser of all time.

With a staggering collection of ₹ 450 (worldwide), Nelson Kumar’s directorial made history by effortlessly climbing up to the 6th position in the list of highest-grossing Tamil flickers.

Although many were quite sceptical about the movie’s BO performance prior to its release, Rajni’s fans showed utmost faith in their superstar and gave him a dream comeback on the big screens after a long gap of two years by making his Jailer a massive success at the box office.

Rajni’s Jailer not only achieved unimaginable financial feats but also rewrote history by shattering numerous box office records in its week-long run. Today we are going to take a look at 5 major box office records broken by Thalaiva’s Jailer since its release on 10 August.

1. Biggest opening day for a Tamil movie

Prior to Jailer, Nelson Dilipkumar’s 2022 release ‘Beast’ held the record of being the highest Tamil opener of all time. The movie, which got its theatrical release last year on 13 April made a whopping collection of ₹ 35 crore on its opening day.

However, Jailer, despite the unavailability of early morning shows, effortlessly snatched the crown by minting Rs 43 crore on its first day at the box office.

2. Only Tamil movie to zoom past 400 crore mark in first week.

Jailer’s fast pasted growth at the box office helped it to breach 400 crore club (worldwide) in just a matter of 7 days. By doing a business of ₹ 412 crores in its first week, Thaliva’s actioner heavily outperformed Ponniyin Selvan who did a business of Rs 324 crores in the first 7 days of its box office run.

3. First Tamil movie to Cross 150 crore in a week.

Jailer’s Dream run at the box office also made it the very first Kollywood movie to clock ₹ 159 in just a single week. The second position in this list is secured by Ponniyin Selvan which was able to collect ₹131 crore by the end of its first week.

4. Biggest Tamil movie of 2023

From Ajith’s Varusu to Vijay’s Thunivu to Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2, 2023 saw the release of a number of mega-budgeted Tamil movies.

While Thunivu minted ₹200 crores at the box office, Varisu overpowered it and garnered around ₹298 crores in its theoretical run to become the biggest Tamil movie of 2023 in the first half of the year. However, Ponny Selvan 2, which was released on April 2023, dethroned the Vijay starrer by collecting a mammoth sum of ₹ 350 crore worldwide and taking away the title.

Now, Rajinikanth’s Jailer has gone past that figure in just a week and become the highest Tamil grosser of 2023 by clocking ₹ 450 Crore on the BO. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see if Vijay’s upcoming Magnum opus Leo will be able to displace Thaliva’s movie and end up as the biggest Tamil movie of the year.

5. Jailer- the king of overseas

As per trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Rajnikanth’s action thriller is currently on its way to beating Ponniyin Selvan 1 to become the No 1 Tamil movie in the United States and United Kingdom.

Besides the US and UK, Jailer is also slamming the box office of the GCC countries and has already become the biggest Tamil movie in the region. In Ocenea (Australian & Newzeland), the Rajnikanth starrer is already the second highest-grossing Tamil movie and is only next to the PS 1

Jailor’s lifetime collection prediction

With the weekend approaching and Thaliva’s fever refusing to die down, Jailer is all set to spike up its collection to new highs in the coming days. The movie is also likely to become the fifth-highest Tamil grosser of all time with a lifetime collection of Rupees 600-659 crores.
