‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ becomes highest grossing Hindi film of 2022 in International market

The film has surpassed the likes of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ (USD 7.47 million), ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ (USD 5.88 million), and ‘The Kashmir Files’ ( USD 5.7 million), which were actually hits at the Indian box office as well.

New Delhi: Aamir Khan’s latest venture ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ faced a huge backlash in the country, while the results were opposite in the international market. The film has now become the highest-grossing Hindi film internationally in 2022. The official remake of ‘Forrest Gump’ may be a flop in India, but is getting some love outside the country.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the film has achieved so by earning USD 7.5 million (Rs 59 crore) in over a week of release. In the Indian market, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ has managed around Rs 55 crore till now.

The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 180 crore and it still has a job to do, in order to earn some profits. Though the OTT release might be a way for the filmmakers to do so, they might also be eyeing the film’s release in China. The country has not been welcoming of foreign cinema in the post-pandemic era. Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ were big hits in China and if ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is released there, it might be good news for the producers. However, the actor’s ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ did not do well in China.

The film is made by Advait Chandan and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya. The remake was written by Atul Kulkarni while the music for the film is composed by Pritam.
