“Maharaja”released worldwide on 12 July 2024 , premiering on OTT Platform Netflix is available in five languages . The gripping and high-octane thriller follows the story of Maharaja, a barber in Pallikaranai, Chennai, faces tragedy when a truck crashes into his house, killing his wife, while his daughter Jothi survives, protected by a dustbin they later name “Lakshmi.” After moving to a new home with Jothi, Maharaja reports the theft of Lakshmi to the police, promising a ₹5 lakh bribe to investigate, despite their initial reluctance. The police enlist ex-convict Nallasivam to help track down the robbers . The quest of finding his elusive “lakshmi” unfolds as he portrays his willingness to go to extreme extents to find it. Through Maharaja’s search for Lakshmi the film becomes a searing indictment of an oppressive system which works not in favour, but against its most disenfranchised subjects
