Main Atal Hoon Review: In addition to showcasing his political career, the film highlights his accomplishments, from the 1998 nuclear test to the triumph in the Kargil conflict.

New Delhi: The much-anticipated film Main Atal Hoon, starring Pankaj Tripathi as the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has opened in theatres today, January 19, 2024. Every detail of the life of the late politician is brought to light in the narrative of Ravi Jadhav’s directing.

Storyline

Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s life is an attempt to be touched by every facet of the film Main Atal Hoon. This biography of the legendary figure in Indian politics, tells the moving tale of the life and political career of the country’s former prime minister. It explores Vajpayee’s many facets, bringing to life his qualities as a politician, poet, and gentleman. The film takes viewers on a roller coaster ride through his life, beginning with his youth in Gwalior and ending with his tenure as prime minister of the nation.

Review

The film opens with Vajpayee’s amiable stance towards Pakistan, and then it jumps back in time to show you a flashback. How Atal Bihari’s father shapes his son into an accomplished public speaker and political leader is a major plot point throughout the novel.

In addition to showcasing his political career, the film highlights his accomplishments, from the 1998 nuclear test to the triumph in the Kargil conflict.

The protagonist’s path from RSS member to law student, newspaper editor, Bhartiya Janata Party founder, and 10th Indian Prime Minister is effectively shown. Jadhav has handled the challenge well and given us a picture of that.

What the film avoids doing is glorifying public displays of patriotism or attempting to erase the mistakes of any political figure, either present or historical.

As Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Tripathi excels in the film. The actor’s choice not to modify his voice or learn mannerisms is smart. Many may find him excessively enthusiastic in certain instances, notably during Vajpayee’s speeches, although the politician was renowned for his expressiveness.

The actor expertly assumes the role of the former prime minister, bringing the role to life with subtle shading and minimum makeup. His outstanding performance draws you in, puts the film’s shortcomings in the background, and generates an impression that lasts.

Despite his best efforts, director Ravi Jadhav—the National award-winning director—is unable to save the script. However, deserves praise for the way he captured some stunning shadow moments.

Main Atal Hoon may have some problems, but it’s still an honest try, and Pankaj Tripathi gives a fantastic performance. Despite a script that isn’t entirely consistent, the biography manages to showcase a fascinating political career.
