New Delhi: The prestigious international beauty pageant – Miss World 2021 finale, has been temporarily postponed after several contestants tested positive for Covid.
The grand finale was was slated for a global broadcast in Puerto Rico this week, but according to the official statement shared by the Miss World Organisation, the program has been temporarily postponed due to the health and safety concerns of contestants, staff, crew, and the general public.
The announcement came just hours before the event was scheduled to start. The contestants are currently in isolation.
“Miss World 2021 temporarily postpones global broadcast finale in Puerto Rico due to health and safety interest of contestants, staff, crew and general public,” the statement read.

The broadcast will be rescheduled at Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot within the next 90 days.
India’s Manasa Varanasi, who was crowned the Miss India World 2020 and is representing the country in the event, was among the 17 infected contestants.
Miss India Organization said on their official Instagram handle, “We were in great disbelief that she (Manasa Varanasi) might not be able to grace the world stage inspite of her immense hard work and dedication, however her safety is of utmost importance to us”.
“We can’t wait to welcome Manasa back home, nurture her back to health and send her back stronger, healthier and happier”, it added.

Meanwhile, for the unversed, Manasa was born in Hyderabad, though her father shifted to Malaysia after her birth. A graduate in Computer Science Engineering, Manasa is also a professional classical dancer and is trained in sign language too.
