New Delhi: The much-hyped Crime thriller Mumbaikar has finally been released on Jio cinema today. For the unversed, the much-awaited Santosh Sivan directorial is the remake of the iconic Tamil blockbuster ‘Managaram’.
Notably, the movie features South Indian Star Vijay Sethupati who has made his Bollywood debut with the film.
Story
The story of the crime-thriller revolves around the life of four strangers whose lives get intertwined with each other owing to certain sets of random events that throw light on different aspects of life in the vibrant city of Mumbai city that never sleeps.
As the story proceeds further, we see that the group of these young men has put themselves in grave trouble as they mistakenly end up kidnapping the son of Mumbai’s mafia don (played by Ranvir Shorey) and despite their constant attempts to make up for their mistake, their lives take an unexpected turn when the son of mafia flees away amid their clash with his dangerous father.
Acting
Undoubtedly, it’s the Vijay Sethupatis acting as character ‘Munnu’ that stands out from the rest as the superstar in his Bollywood debut has effortlessly managed to capture the attention of the audience effortlessly with his evergreen charm and solid performance.
Besides Vijay, Vikrant Massey in his brave avatar along with Hirdu Haroon’s exceptional performance as a small-town boy who is still trying to find his foothold in the bustling city is definitely a treat to watch.
Verdict:
With multiple stories running parallelly, Mumbaikar is a film that tries to go all guns blazing but unfortunately, falls a little short of the expectations it initially raises thanks to its unique but confusing script.
Watching Mumbaikar, one can feel that the story writers have tried to fit way too much into the story resulting in the lead characters of the movie Vijay Sethupati and Ranvir Shorey getting lesser screen time and their potential remaining unexplored.
However, despite the shortcomings and underwhelming experience, Vijay Sethupati’s brilliance combined with some exciting humor infused with the crime drama does make Mumbaikar a decent one-time watch this weekend.
