‘Nepotism on its peak’: Netizens criticise Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies for featuring starkids

The movie features starkids such as Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Dot, Mihir Ahuja, Vedang Raina, Yuvraj Menda in pivotal roles.

New Delhi: Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies is grabbing attention from the days of its shoot. The movie is based on a popular comic book with the same name and each of the characters in the movie will represent the original characters from the book. Zoya Akhtar has chosen fresh faces and talents for this movie and most of them will be making their debut in the B-Town with this film.

The movie features starkids such as Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Dot, Mihir Ahuja, Vedang Raina, Yuvraj Menda in pivotal roles. The one-minute 35 seconds video introduces the cast of the film along with how the film is going to represent a loved comic book visually. 

The video shows the characters dressed in bygone days having a picnic in a forest setting. Each shows a different persona and relationship with others. The video has already gotten more than 65 thousand views in an hour of its release.

Most of the celebrities of the Bollywood industry have welcomed the newcomers gladly. They have even reacted to the video by sending congratulatory and warm wishes. Besides, Shah Rukh Khan shared a piece of fatherly wisdom with his daughter, Suhana. He wrote, “Remember @suhanakhan2 you are never going to be perfect….but being yourself is the closest to that.”

Explaining further, Shah Rukh, arguably one of the most-talked-about actors in the world, wrote, “Be kind and giving as an actor…the brickbats and applause is not yours to keep…the part of you that gets left behind on screen will always belong to you.”

Amitabh Bachchan whose grandson Agastya Nanda features in the movie has Archie has also wished him luck with the new project.

However, netizens did not take casts of the movie very gladly and flooded criticism in the comment section. Some reacted to the promotion of “nepotism” while some mocked the “white, fair cast for an Indian adaptation of Archie.”
