OMG 2: Censor Board orders 27 modifications, cuts down Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie by 13 minutes

The decision came after a series of tussles and disagreements between the Board and the makers over a number of objectionable scenes from the film

New Delhi: Censor Board (CBFC) on Tuesday gave a major setback to the team of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming satirical comedy-drama OMG2 by issuing an adult-only (A) certificate for the movie ahead of its release.

To make things even worse, CBFC also recommended over 27 modifications and cuts to be made in Amit Rai’s directorial before letting it hit the theatres on 11 August.

The decision came after a series of tussles and disagreements between the Board and the makers over a number of objectionable scenes from the film. This prolonged deadlock between the makers and board not just adversely affected its pre-release buzz but also forced its makers to delay the release of the movie’s highly awaited trailer.

Major cuts and Modifications ordered by CBFC

As per the directions given by the board, the Filmmakers will have to change the name of Akshay Kumar’s character from Lord Shiva to Messenger of God in the movie. They will also have to remove Ujjain’s reference from the movie which includes a number of important dialogues mouthed by Akshay Kumar.

Additionally. a number of the movie’s objectionable scenes have also been removed or replaced by the Censor board. For instance, a scene from OMG 2 in which a poster of Moodx condom is shown has been omitted by the board.

Besides that, some important dialogues from the movie like Nandi Mere Bhakat, Bade Bade baal dekh kar’, ‘satya Shivam Sundaram, ‘Hamara desh peeche nahi hai, aurat ki yoni, haaram etc have been removed from the film.

By making over 27 modifications and cuttings in the movie, the Censor Board has not only snatched away OMG2’s originality but also limited its audience by issuing an A certificate in the movie’s favour.

About OMG 2

OMG 2 is an upcoming sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2012 super hit Oh My God which was directed by Umesh Shukla. In its star-studded cast, the movie features Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi in the leading roles with Yami Gautam, Govind Namdev and Arun Govil playing as the supporting characters.

Its story centres around the life of a Shiva devotee Kanti Sharan Mudgal who resides in the holy city of Ujjain. The remaining story of the movie shows how god (Lord Shiva) himself incarnates to come to the aid of his troubled devotee and guide him to overcome all the difficulties and challenges with the power of self-belief, devotion and faith.

The movie is set to hit the big screen on 11 of August where it will face a tough challenge from Sunny Doel’s Gadar 2.

Will OMG2 end Akshay’s struggle?

The Boss actor, who has given the industry a number of Blockbusters in the last two decades, is currently going through a nightmarish phase of his career with his movies falling flat at the box office one after the other.

In such circumstances, OMG 2 comes as a ray of hope for the veteran actor who will be looking to revive his career and make a solid comeback at the box office with the movie.
