New Delhi: R Balki’s upcoming venture ‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’ gets a release date. The makers announced that the romantic thriller would hit the cinemas on 23 September 2022. R Balki is back to rule the theatres after ‘Pad Man’ in 2018.
The film stars veteran actors Sunny Deol and Pooja Bhatt along with today’s stars Dulquer Salmaan and Shreya Dhanwanthary. The cast includes Rajeev Ravindranathan, Rakesh Bhavsar, Abhijit Sinha and Harry Meena. The film is written by R. Balki, Raja Sen and Rishi Virmani, and follows Suresh, a lonely movie director who stumbles into Shanti one evening and casts her as the lead in a film. In a twist of fate, Shanti becomes a superstar and Suresh falls from the upper echelons of the film industry.
The film is special for many reasons. Firstly, it is a homage to filmmaker Guru Dutt and his 1959 classic ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’. The film also marks the debut of superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who has worked with Balki many times, as a music composer. Mr Bachchan has composed the end title track for the movie. “Amitji saw ‘Chup’ and played an instinctive original melody on his piano as he relived the film,” Balki said. The film is special for another reason as it will have lyrics by legendary poets and lyricists Sahir Ludhainvi and Kaifi Azmi while it will use SD Burman’s music.
The music in the film is composed by Amit Trivedi, Sneha Khanwalkar and Aman Pant while the lyrics department is held by Swanand Kirkire. The film is produced by the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Anil Naidu, Gauri Shinde and the owner of PEN Studios Dr Jayantilal Gada.
