Ranveer’s sister from Rocky and Rani recalls people accusing her of sleeping with directors to get work

New Delhi: Anjali Anand, who is currently receiving praise for her impressive acting in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, recently recalled the struggling days of her acting career and opened up on how she fought her way out of them.

Speaking in an interview with Siddharth Kaanan, the RRKPK actress spoke about the hardships she faced when a number of people she knows and some even from the industry tried to drag the actress down by demotivating her.

However, the plus-sized actress was determined not to end up as a woman who is seen munching burgers on the streets and wanted people to see her as a lead actress.

Anjali’s take on Bollywood’s stereotyping of fat people

Talking about Bollywood’s stereotypical depiction of fat people, Anjali said that in a number of old area’s Bollywood movies, there are Characters like Miss Mimi (From Indra Kumar’s 1990 movie Dil) who are shown eating Burgers and French fries in a filthy manner and their whole personality centres around their physical appearance. “Back then Bollywood didn’t know that they should not show a fat person just eating all the time” she added further.

The actress further said that playing the character of Ranveer’s overweight sister (Gayatri) in RRKPK provided her with an opportunity to turn the page and make a person come out and confront society and family for judging them on the basis of their physical appearance.

She also hailed Karan’s movie by saying, “I think everything in this movie is unapologetically being said out loud.”

Anjali’s struggle

In the podcast, Anjli also recalled the time when she decided to make her career in the unforgiving industry and said that when she told people that she want to be an actress and enrolled herself in acting school, everyone made fun of her and told her to forget about acting.” However, the actress trusted her guts and stepped inside the industry through her hard work and commitment.

Her goal was simply to be the lead of the show and not end up doing side roles like the lead actress’ fat best friend. Finally, her hard work started to pay off when she was offered to work in an online series Untag back in 2017.

After that, Anjli never looked behind and starred as the lead female character in a number of television shows including Dhai Kilo Prem and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala.

How can Fat women get lead roles?

While sharing her career stories, the actress also opened up about disgusting remarks people threw at him after she was offered her second TV show Kulfi Kumar. Speaking about the same, Anjali recalled receiving hundreds of pathetic DMs on Instagram in which people were telling her that she must have slept around with men to get lead roles.

“I can’t believe they think without sleeping with each other people don’t get work, it is so stupid that they are still talking about it,” she said before Siddarth concluded the interview.

Nevertheless, following her praiseworthy acting in Rocky aur Rani kii Prem Kahani, Anjli for sure can expect some handsome work offers in the near future.
