Sonu Nigam cautions fans against imposter lady posing as his social media team to scam money from public

New Delhi: Sonu Nigam is one of the most prominent figures in the Indian music industry. The 49-year-old playback singer has provided the industry with a number of timeless tracks and won the hearts of millions with his melodious voice over a period of 25 years.

From Sanjay Dutt to Govinda to Shah Rukh Khan, Sonu has given his voice to almost every superstar from the 90s, 2000s era. Besides that,  the well-known singer has also glittered a number of Television shows and pop albums with his soothing voice.

However, the popular singer recently found himself in trouble when a woman tried to scam a number of his fans by making false claims regarding her association with him. Things went so out of hand that Sonu Nigam himself has to jump in to warn his fans against the imposter lady and issue a public warning against her.

The imposter

Taking to his Facebook, Sonu Nigam shared a number of screenshots in which the Scammer with the username Erica Michael is seen trying to portray herself as a part of Sonu’s team and scamming his fans by telling them that Sonu has decided to meet with them in person and asking them money for the same.

Along with the screenshots, Sonu also attached a captain that read, “My dear family and friends. Someone’s working very hard to make ‘honest’ Money.. Do have a look. And beware.

The Scam

In one of the Screenshots, the scammer is seen promising one user that she will let him speak to Sonu directly after making him believe that he is one of the few lucky ones selected by Sonu’s team for the meetup.

In another one of the screenshots, the victim user is seen visibility falling into her trap as she asks him to grant money for Sonu’s charitable causes and even provides him with her PayPal account in order to receive the scammed money. She also tries to fetch the personal details of her victim by asking them questions like where they reside etc.

Sonu’s legal adviser speaks on the matter

Speaking about the matter Sonu’s legal advisor Ashish Joshi told that he and his team are investigating the matter and trying to retrieve details of the scammer. “Nobody should fall victim to such scams”,  he said further.

Not the first case

Notably, this was not the first time when someone tried to commit fraud using Sonu’s name as previously, in a similar case of attempted fraud,  a man tried to impersonate himself as Sonu’s Enrolled Agent (EA) and attempted to scam his fans by requesting them to give him Rs. 50,000.

Even prior to that, Sonu’s dad Agam Kumar’s driver Rehan fled after stealing 72 Lack from the senior citizens’ home in Mumbai’s Andheri. He was later arrested by the police within 48 hours of committing the crime following which, he was fired from his job and charged under relevant sanctions of the Indian Penal Code.
