Sushant Singh Rajput’s death: Rhea Chakraborty, brother Showik Chakraborty charged by NCB in drugs case

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has filed draft charges against actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and others before a special court in Mumbai in connection with drugs case linked to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death on Wednesday.

According to the news agency PTI, special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande said the prosecution maintained charges against all the accused as mentioned in the charge sheet filed before the court.

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajpur was found dead on June 14th, 2020 at his Bandra residence.

The death case was being probed by the CBI.

Also, a separate investigation was done by the Enforcement Directorate and Narcotics Control Bureau. Rhea, Sushant’s rumoured girlfriend at the time, was arrested in the case in September 2020 and was granted bail by the Bombay High Court almost a month later.

Rhea’s brother Showik and several others were also aligned as accused in the case for alleged consumption, possession and financing of drugs.

According to the reports, the prosecution has proposed the court to charge Rhea and Showik for consumption of narcotic substances and also for procuring and paying for such substances for Sushant. The special public prosecutor said that scheduled to frame charges against all the accused was not done as a few of them had moved discharge applications.

Only after the discharge pleas are decided, the charges will be framed, said the Court.

On Wednesday, Rhea and Showik and other accused were present before the court .  The matter will now be heard on July 12 by the Special judge V G Raghuwanshi.
