Tanaav, Mission Majnu & few more Indian Spy thrillers to watch on OTT this weekend

From original shows like The Family Man to the remakes of some popular shows like The Night Manager, the Indian OTT industry has produced a number of entertaining shows in the recent past.

New Delhi: A few years from now, whenever it came to the spy thriller genre, the Indian film industry was simply no match for the Western one.

However, it’s 2023, and things are changing faster than ever. With the recent growth of OTT culture in India, several top-notch espionage thrillers have been produced in the domestic industry.

From original shows like The Family Man to the remakes of some popular shows like The Night Manager, the Indian OTT industry has produced a number of entertaining shows in the recent past which are enough to prove that it is not a Spy thriller underdog anymore.

With that being said, let’s look at some evergreen spy thriller movies and shows released on OTT platforms in the last few years.

1. The Night Manager (Disney+Hotstar)

Based on a popular book by John Le Carre, Priyanka Ghose’s directorial The Night Manager is a remake of a famous British series.

The show’s story revolves around the protagonist (Aditya Roy Kapoor), who is assigned the challenging task of keeping an eye on a dangerous arms dealer Shailendra “Shelly’ Raunga (Anil Kapoor).

Besides Aditya Roy and Anil Kapoor, the spy thriller also stars Shobhita Dhulipala and Tillotama Shome in important roles.

2. Mission Majnu (Netflix)

Directed by Shantuni Bagchi, Mission Majnu is set in the backdrop of 1971’s Indo-Pakistani war and centres around the life of an undercover RAW agent Aman who lands in Pakistan disguised as a tailor named Tariq Hussian.

During the secret mission, the spy agent loses control of his heart and falls in love with a blind Pakistani woman Nasreen Hussain (Rashmika Mandhana).

However, his little love story is cut short when Pakistan begins to build a nuclear warhead, and it’s on Aman to locate the nuclear facility and inform Indian officials about the same.

3. The family man (Amazon Prime)

The Manoj BajPayee starter spy thriller is the story of an undercover agent Shrikant Twari who is compelled to hide his identity from his wife (Priyamani) and other members to keep them safe and secure.

However, when his daughter is kidnapped by dangerous Sri Lankan militants in the second season of the show, Srikant’s true identity gets revealed in front of his family as he leaves no stone unturned to find and save his beloved daughter.

The show also stars Harib Hashmi, Shreya Dhanwantary, Sharad kelkar and Gul Panang in povital roles.

4. Tanaav (SonyLiv)

The Indian adaptation of the all-time Popular Israeli show Fauda ‘Tanaav throws light on the constant struggle between special forces and terrorist groups in Kashmir.

Its story revolves around the life of an ex-special force agent (Kabir Farooqui ) whose peaceful life is shaken by his own former commander Vikrant Rathore when he hits him with the alarming news of Umar Riaz ( A terrorist Kabir shot and assumed dead) being alive.

As Kabir once again joins forces with his unit to pursue Umar Riaz, there is no turning back until Riaz’s heart stops beating for real this time.

5. Bared of Blood (Netflix)

Produced by SRK’s Red Chillies, Emran Hashmi’s thriller centres around the life of a spy Kabir Anand who turns away from his work after the unfortunate death of his partner during a secret mission.

However, when four intelligence officials are held hostage by the Taliban, Kabir is summoned by Secret service director Sadiq Sheikh to join forces with agents Isha Khanna and Veer Singh for an unapproved rescue mission to save the intelligence officers.

Other than Emran Hashmi, the show stars Rajit Kapur Shobhita Dhulipala and Vineet Kumar Singh in significant roles.
