The Kerala Story earnings at BO, Day 7: Rs 100 crore mark not far, movie garners Rs 80 crore

The total collection of The Kerala Story stands at Rs 80.86 crores. It is about Rs 20 crores short of Rs 100 crore club but the theatres occupancy shows that people are still visiting theatres in large numbers.

New Delhi: The Kerala Story team is on Cloud nine as the movie is doing brisk business at the Box Office, even a week after its release. The movie is all set to enter Rs 100 crore club in a day or two. On Day 7 of its release, the controversial film garnered Rs 80 crore in earnings.

The roaring business at the Box Office comes despite a ban on the movie in at least two states. West Bengal govt banned the movie two days after release while Tamil Nadu removed the movie from theatres though no formal announcement was made.

The Kerala Story opened in theatres with handsome advance bookings and collected Rs 8 crore on Day 1. Its advance booking of 31,000 tickets was the fifth highest for 2023, leaving behind Selfiee & Shehzada. The major swing in business came during the last weekend as it clocked more than Rs 11-12 crores. On Day 7 (May 11), the movie reportedly minted Rs 12 crores. Such collection during the weekdays leaves enough hint that the movie is going strong and will have more bouts of revenue jump, in days & weekends to come.

The movie narrates the story of Hindu & Christian girls in Kerala, who are indoctrinated to accept Islam as their religion & then they were transported to terrorist group ISIS to work there as ‘sex slaves or human bombs’.

The movie found itself enveloped in controversy over number of women being converted to Islam, post their brainwash & marriage with the Muslim men.
