The Kerela Story struggles to find OTT buyers, Sudipto Sen accuses B-Town of groupism

The Adah Sharma starrer claims to be based on real-life events that revolve around the life of a few unfortunate women who are converted to Islam after being brainwashed.

New Delhi: From getting banned in West Bengal to facing outright rejection from several theatres of Tamil Nadu, we saw how Sudipto Sen’s Directorial venture The Kerela Story was pulled into numerous controversies during its days at the box office.

However, despite facing all the backlash and criticism it was subjected to, the movie turned out to be a huge success at the box office, becoming the very first female-centric film to march into the prestigious 200 crore club.

No OTT Buyers for The Kerela Story

After somehow making it to the big screens in March, Now, the Adah Sharma starrer is now facing a hard time finding a digital media platform for its highly awaited OTT release.

Speaking about the same, the movie’s Director Sudipto Sen told in an interview how he and his team have been unable to find a suitable offer from any OTT platform for the Kerela story.

In the interview, Sudipto said “We still haven’t got a suitable offer from any OTT platform for the Kerela story”

He continued, “We are still waiting for a good workable deal from any of the main OTT platforms. But so far, we have not got any offer worth considering. It seems the film industry has ganged up to punish us.”

On being asked about why he thinks that the industry is punishing the moviemakers, Sudipto replied saying that the Kerala story’s success at the box office has displeased many sections of the movie industry and that’s why they have all come together to punish the filmmakers for their success.

As the story proceeds we see the women joining forces with the terrorist organization ISIS as they depart from India for Afghanistan to live a whole different life filled with dilemmas, hardships, cruelty, redemption and terror.

Besides Adah, the movie features Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the leading cast.
