Veteran actress Seema Deo, famous for her roles in ‘Anand’ and ‘Kora Kagaz’ passes away at 81

Last year, her husband Ramesh Deo, who was also a well-known figure in the Hindi and Marathi film industry, died at the old age of 93.

New Delhi: Seema Deo, one of the most iconic actresses of Bollywood’s classic era, died on Thursday morning at her residential home in Mumbai.

The 81-year-old actress, who was fighting Alzheimer’s and Demendta for over a span of three years, succumbed to her old age illness and took her final breath in the early hours of August 24 2023.

Informing PTI about his mother’s demise, her filmmaker son Abhi Deo said, “She passed away at 8.30-9 am at her residence in Bandra due to old age. She had been withdrawn completely, and eventually, it was just old age. Alzheimer’s is such a thing that you stop figuring out how to function. She had dementia leading up to Alzheimer’s and she was suffering from it for over three years.” He further said that he can’t tell one particular reason for his mother’s death.

Speaking about his mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia Abhinay said that the deadly health conditions make a person forget how to walk as their muscle memory gets weaker and weaker over time which causes the body’s organs to shut down one by one.

Seema Deo’s career in the film industry

The old hand actress started her Bollywood career with her debut movie titled Miya Bibi Razi which was released back in 1960. The film was helmed by talented director Jyoti Swaroop and featured Mehmood, Seema Deo and Kamini Kadam in the leading cast

Following that, Seema worked in more than 80 films in both Hindi and Marathi languages. Her praiseworthy work in Bollywood’s class hits like Anand (1971) and KoraKagaz (1974) mark two of her most celebrated works in the industry.
