The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (July 4)

Brad Pitt plays the title character, whose case is indeed curious: Benjamin Button is born looking like an old man and gets younger every day. He and normally aging Daisy (Cate Blanchett) overlap long enough to fall in love. The Hollywood Reporter called the film “superbly made.” It earned 13 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. The Salesman (July 6)

The winner of the 2017 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was written and directed by Asghar Farhadi. The Iranian story involves a husband and wife starring in a production of Death of a Salesman who find their offstage world torn apart when the wife is assaulted. The rage of powerlessness pervades the husband’s stage role and his own life. (2016, PG-13)

Mr. Robot, Season 2 (July 13)

Rami Malek’s Emmy-winning performance is a good reason to watch this genre-defying drama series, but it’s far from the only one. Malek plays gifted but troubled computer expert Elliot Alderson, who takes up with a band of hackers fighting a monolithic corporation. Elliot guides us through Mr. Robot’s dystopian world, but we are never sure whether what he’s showing us is real or hallucination. (2016, TV-MA)

Kelsey Grammer is Pat Brady, the bottom-line-fixated studio boss, and Lily Collins is Brady’s ambitious, love-struck daughter. (2017, TV-MA)
