Will Ajay Devgn’s thriller Drishyam 2 end rout at BO? Numbers suggest so

If Drishyam 2 turns out to be a big draw, it will be a good omen for other remakes also. Lately, the Hindi film industry has been beset by string of loss-making movies and recording fast depleting audience base.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is returning to the Box Office (BO) with sequel of his 2015 blockbuster hit Drishyam. However, the bigger question on everybody’s mind including trade analysts to multiplex owners is that will this thriller give fresh hopes for the Hindi film industry. Will this end the rout at Box Office? Will Ajay’s movie set cash registers ringing?

The movie is yet to release in theatres but the numbers in advance booking have given fresh hopes of a good start, when it hits the theatres on November 18. The makers of Drishyam 2 opened advance booking for the film on October 2. The movie has been raking in the moolah since the day advance booking started.

Many multiplexes are witnessing record advance booking for the thriller sequel of Bollywood star. In the opening weekend alone, the cine chains namely PVR, INOX and Cinepolis have sold more than 35,000 tickets.

The reason why multiplex owners are expecting surge of visitors is because of the fact that advance booking for Drishyam 2 has surpassed much ahead of Ajay Devgn’s previous flicks Runway 34 and Thank God. Moreover, when the film releases in theatres, the audience turnout and word of the mouth will further add to mass returning to the multiplexes.

If Drishyam 2 turns out to be a big draw, it will be a good omen for other remakes also. Lately, the Hindi film industry has been beset by string of loss-making movies and recording fast depleting audience base. Recently, Janhvi Kapoor starrer Milli had spawned fresh hopes but that got dashed too.

With Milli being a dampener, now all eyes are on Drishyam 2 which is an adaption of Malyalam film by the same name. It will indeed be a litmus test for the Hindi remakes.

Drishyam became a blockbuster hit soon after its release and since then, film analysts were hoping for a sequel to the popular film.
