100 gelatine sticks, 350 detonators seized from Chennai-Mangalapuram Express; one arrested

Yesterday, Mumbai Police also seized explosives from a ‘suspicious’ SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence in South Mumbai on Thursday.

New Delhi: More than 100 gelatine sticks and 350 detonators were seized from a woman passenger. Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized the high amount of explosives form the Chennai-Mangalapuram Express.

Ramani, a Tamil Nadu native, has been arrested; the explosives were kept under the seats. She has admitted that she was carrying gelatine sticks for the use of digging well, sources said. But police is investigating the incident from all angles, as Kerala will hold its Assembly Elections in coming April-May.

The incident comes just days after Chikkaballapur incident when few workers of the quarry were trying to destroy gelatine sticks by throwing them into fire, 6 people died in that incident.
