New Delhi: At a time when fast vaccination drive should be the sole moto for insulating maximum people against deadly Coronavirus, state governments seem to be in race for scoring political points by playing to the gallery.

In Chhattisgarh, vaccine recipients are getting Corona vaccination cards with 2 Chief Ministers mentioned on it. One such vaccination slip, shared by a leading newspaper journalist, shows Mr Bhupesh Baghel and Mr TS Singh Deo as the chief ministers of Chhattisgarh.

Such callousness by civic authorities speaks volumes about state government’s misplaced priorities. Rather than putting its focus on vaccinating people, it is bent on publicizing the face of Chief Minister.

Such grandstanding in the face of pandemic in a Congress ruled states also exposes party’s tall claims of clean governance. Congress leaders have repeatedly gone ballistic on Modi government and accused it of messing up the vaccination drive.

The grand old party has even derided sudden uptick in vaccine drive, in last week of June, but their silence on such glaring goof-up must be questioned.

Till date, Chhattisgarh has vaccinated about 89 lakh people. It recorded its highest vaccination on Saturday, which stood at 3.5 lakh, however, this remains much lower than many its peers. Neigbouring state Madhya Pradesh vaccinated record 12 lakh people on June 21.
