2 Indian High Commission officials arrested in Pakistan, to be released after India issues demarche

Islamabad Police arrested 2 Indian High Commission employees claiming that they were involved in hit-and-run incident.

New Delhi: India today demanded the return of two High Commission officials after they were reportedly arrested in Islamabad.

After reports emerged about arrest of 2 mission officials, the External Affairs Ministry summoned Pakistan’s charge d’affaires Syed Haider Shah and raised strong objection. Pakistan envoy was told that it it was the responsibility of the government of Pakistan to ensure the safety and security on the Indian staffers. Following this, Pakistan govt agreed to hand 2 Indian staffers, the HT reported.

Islamabad Police arrested 2 Indian High Commission employees claiming that they were involved in hit-and-run incident. “A BMW car hit a pedestrian who was walking on the embassy road at around 8am and attempted to flee. The pedestrian was critically injured and shifted to a hospital for treatment, Islamabad Police claimed while arresting the Indian officials.

Earlier in the day, report said that two senior staffers posted at Indian mission in Islamabad stepped out for some work on Monday morning but didn’t reach their destination. It’s then the high commission officials informed New Delhi and Pakistan’s foreign office.

Pak spies at Delhi High Commission deported

Just few days back, two Pakistani officials and Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi were caught red-handed for  spying against India, were subsequently charged and deported back to Pakistan.
