New Delhi: Looking at street vendors, the first thought that comes to mind is that they work for long hours and do laborious work just to make ends meet. Most of them are daily wagers, meaning that they earn daily and consume daily. They neither have bank balance nor have stocked money to meet their expenses if they sit idle.
But, here comes a group of street vendors in Kanpur who are rich, wealthy and are no less than moneybags. Though they live a simple life, their enormous wealth has attracted huge attention, including those from the Income Tax department.
The stereotypical perspective on the remuneration of the vendors and sellers on the road is that they earn too little to even feed their families properly. However, the Income Tax officers in Kanpur were taken by surprise when it was found that many of these vendors were earning in crores. As per the sources of the income tax department, a total of 256 vendors are told to be millionaires.
How IT slueuths got wind of moneybag vendors in Kanpur
I-T department had put many of these under surveillance for a long time. No tax or GST payment was made by any of these suspects despite the immense amount of income. Now Income Tax Department has issued notice to such persons.
As per the sources, many of these vendors had accounts in small cooperative banks and financial companies to keep fraudulent concealed. Many had various accounts on the names of their family members or relatives.
However, the IT department could reveal the fraud as the same PAN card was used to open all these accounts. Apart from vendors, several Junk dealers are found to be involved in such fraud as well. IT is investigating the matter.
