3 Railway stations renamed in Uttar Pradesh, know their new names

According to a circular issued by Northern Railway, the name of the Pratapgarh Railway Station has been renamed as Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh Junction.

New Delhi: The Northern Indian Railways has announced renaming of three railway stations in Uttar Pradesh, which are Pratapgarh, Antu and Bishgnathganj Stations. This came after the proposal getting go-ahead from the Home Ministry.

According to a circular issued by Northern Railway, the name of the Pratapgarh Railway Station has been renamed as Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh Junction. Antu Station has been renamed ‘Maa Chandrika Devi Dham antu and Bishgnathganj Station’ ‘ Bishgnathganj Station has been renamed as ‘Shanidev dham Bishnath Ganj’.

All These three stations come under the Lucknow division of Northern Railways. The alpha codes of the Railway Stations have also been changed as below:

Maa Behla Devi Pratapgarh Junction –MBDP
Maa Chandrika Devi Dham Antu- MCDA
And Shani dev Dham Bishnathganj- SBTJ

These stations have been named after the Gods & deities and their significance in the given territory.

This is not a one –off incident of name change. Previously also, the Railways changed the name of Jhansi Railway Station and renamed as Veerangna Laxmi bai Jhansi Railway Station.

Mughalsarai Railway Station was also renamed as ‘Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Railway Station’. Faizabad Junction was renamed as Ayodhya Cantt.

Process of name change of railway stations:

State govt remains the final authority on changing the name of railway station. First, the govt sends a request to the Ministry of Home Affairs which takes a call keeping the Railways Ministry in the loop.

After all the legal formalities, the new name with the code is sent to Indian Railways data system so that it will be reflected in the tickets and train information etc.
