4.6 magnitude quake strikes Rohtak in Haryana, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

Delhi has been jolted by a series of tremors over the last month. A low-intensity earthquake of magnitude 2.2 hit the national capital on May 15.

New Delhi: Tremors were felt in Delhi on Friday evening after an earthquake of 4.6 magnitude on Richter scale struck near Rohtak in Haryana.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 9.08pm with a depth of 5 kilometres.

According to reports, strong tremors were felt in parts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Greater Noida, Rohtak, Jind, Sonepat and surrounding areas of the national capital; whereas Chandigarh and Punjab reported mild tremors.

On May 10, a medium-intensity earthquake of magnitude 3.4 hit the area near Wazirpur in northeast Delhi.

According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, seismicity around Delhi appears to be associated with a major geological structure known as the Delhi-Hardwar Ridge.
