45 lakh people in 19 days: India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive running at brisk pace

According to the data shared by Dr Harsh Vardhan, the United States touched the 4-million mark in 20 days followed by Israel and the UK in 39 days. India achieved 40 lakh mark in just 18 days.

New Delhi: After rolling out the vaccination drive on January 16, the campaign is running at super speed in the country. In just 18 days, more than 44 lakh healthcare workers have been vaccinated across the country.

As per official release, India has become the fastest country to vaccinate 4 million people.

At least 44, 49, 552 beneficiaries have received their first vaccine jab, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said on Thursday.

According to Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, India’s vaccination rate is much ahead of developed economies like UK, US and Israel.

According to the data shared by Vardhan, the United States touched the 4-million mark in 20 days followed by Israel and the UK in 39 days.

3.10 lakh healthcare workers vaccinated in past 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, 3,10,604 people were vaccinated across 8,041 sessions. 84,617 sessions have been conducted so far. 54.87 per cent of the total beneficiaries vaccinated against COVID-19, so far, are from seven States.

“Many other countries have had a head start of almost 65 days. India launched the countrywide COVID19 vaccination drive on January 16, 2021. The number of beneficiaries being vaccinated every day has also shown a progressive increase,” the Ministry said.

Active caseload on constant decline

Meanwhile, there has been a consistent decline in India’s Covid-19 active caseload. The number of active cases has dropped to 1.55 lakh (1,55,025) and comprises just 1.44 per cent of the total infections.

The Ministry informed that India’s daily positivity rate is 1.82 per cent, as of today and has maintained the daily positivity rate below 2 per cent in last few weeks (19 days).
