Over 80 lakh vaccination in a day: MP, Karnataka highest performers with 12 lakh & 8.73 lakh doses

New Delhi: India’s fight against Covid-19 achieved a new milestone on Monday as the nation recorded its highest vaccination, at about 75.5 lakh doses in a day.

According to government figures, more than 75 lakh vaccine doses were administered in past 24 hours, the highest in a day since vaccine drive launched early this year.

The impressive numbers come on Day 1 of Centre rolling out new vaccination policy. Under the revised policy, the Centre has announced free vaccination to all above 18 years from today. Also, the procurement has been taken away from states and Centre will provide them free of cost.


MP, K’taka & UP tops charts in vaccinating people

According to reports, five BJP-ruled states have stood out in achieving maximum numbers in inoculating people with the vaccine.

A leading portal reported that Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana took lead in vaccination by conducting special drives. Madhya Pradesh recorded 12 lakh vaccinations, Karnataka 8.73 lakh and UP 5.84 lakh till 5pm.

And, more than 50 lakh of 70 lakh vaccine doses were administered to people with 18-44 category.

The last time India’s single-day vaccine coverage was the highest was on April 2 when 42,65,157 doses were administered.

Over 28 crore people vaccinated

Till date, more than 28 crore of entire population has been vaccinated. According to the ministry, a total of 28,00,36,898 vaccine doses have been administered through 38,24,408 sessions.

If vaccination proceeds at this scale, India may well be on its path of vaccinating enough people to create herd immunity. With vaccine supply set to augment next month significantly, the vaccine drive is set to get stronger further.
