A day after Capt distanced himself from farmers stir, Punjab MLA claims ‘Cong is sponsoring protests’

This comes as a major embarrassment for the party as Punjab CM yesterday red-flagged the continuing stir in various parts of the states and urged the farmers to head to Delhi with their demands.

New Delhi: It is a big admission of Congress hand in months-long farmers protest over the recently legislated farm laws. Raj Kumar Verka, a member of Punjab Assembly, speaking to media persons accepted that the protests are supported by political parties and Congress party is an active proponent of the stir.

This comes as a major embarrassment for the party as Punjab CM yesterday red-flagged the continuing stir in various parts of the states and urged the farmers to head to Delhi with their demands.

Congress MLA Raj Kumar Verka called the agitation against Centre’s farm laws a Cong-sponsored farm protest. Terming the Centre’s farm laws as ‘black and draconian’, he declared that the Congress party was rallying behind the protests. He also said that it’s a fight against BJP and the grand old party will leave nothing to chance, in fight against corruption.

“This is an agitation by Punjab farmers. The stir has support of all parties including the Congress. We fully express solidarity with them. It’s a fight against black and draconian laws of BJP regime and we won’t relent,” Cong legislator said.

What Capt Amarinder Singh said

Punjab CM Capt Amarinder on Monday said that ongoing protests at 113 places in the state was adversely impacting the economic development. He appealed to Unions to not hold protests in Punjab as the state govt has already expressed solidarity with them.

Farmers, primarily from Punjab, Haryana & Western UP kicked off the protests by blocking highways & sit-in protests, in opposition to Centre’s controversial farm laws. Kisan Union leaders made it a point to not allow the protest site turn into political arena by refusing to host or meet any leader from any political party. However, such boast of Congress MLA has raised fresh questions.
