AAP dissolves its Gujarat unit ahead of upcoming Assembly polls

The dissolution of AAP’s Gujarat unit comes 2 days after AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s roadshow in Mehsana district of the state.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dissolved its all units in Gujarat on Wednesday, even as the state prepares for Assembly polls later this year. The party has however retained its state President.

Calling it an organisational overhaul, the party said that it has been done to prepare itself for giving a tough fight to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The party says that soon a new & empowered unit will take charge to challenge the BJP in its own den but the dissolution of whole state unit reeks of internal rumblings that must be brewing within. Earlier, the party also dissolved its entire party unit in Himachal, another state going to Assembly polls this year.

The dissolution of AAP’s Gujarat unit comes 2 days after AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s roadshow in Mehsana district of the state. In the rally, Kejriwal had said that AAP was the only ‘antidote’ to BJP.

“The people of Gujarat want a political change and the Aam Aadmi Party is the only medicine to cure the BJP,” he said at the rally.

Addressing AAP’s ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Mehsana city atop a vehicle, Kejriwal said that the BJP is frightened of his party because it is the only party that is ‘honest & patriotic’.

“The Aam Aadmi’s organisation will end the misrule of BJP ruling for 27 years. The INC is wiped out. Now, the only hope is Kejriwal,” he added.

After tasting success in Punjab, AAP’s eyes are firmly fixed on upcoming polls in 2 states – Gujarat & Himachal. Kejriwal has been visiting Gujarat often and looking to make deep inroads in the Western state. Kejriwal has visited Gujarat 4 times in last 3 months.

The party even harbours an intention to dislodge the BJP regime, hit by strong anti-incumbency wave. The party is looking to field candidates in all 182 Assembly seats in the forthcoming Assembly polls.

Meanwhile, Congress Alka Lamba has taken swipe at AAP for dissolving its state units and said that it was taken because Kejriwal’s rally was turning out to be dud, with people not turning up at rallies.

“Heard that AAP’s Gujarat rally proved to be a big flop show, due to which the party had to take this decision – now, BJP will take over Kejriwal-led party in Gujarat,” the Congress leader tweeted.
