AAP extends support to opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha

Arvind Kejriwal-Led Aam Adami Party (AAP) announced on Saturday that it will support opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the Presidential poll.

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal-Led Aam Adami Party (AAP) announced on Saturday that it will support opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the Presidential poll. The latest development was announced by the AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh. The presidential election is scheduled to be held in the country on July 18.

”We have respect for Draupadi Murmu (NDA candidate) but we decided to support Yashwant Sinhaji,” said Sanjay. He added that the decision was taken by a political advisory committee (PAC) of the party.

The opposition parties such as Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress also extended their support in the presidential polls.

Notably, AAP is currently in power in Delhi and Punjab. In the Delhi assembly, the party has 62 MLAs while in the 117-member Punjab Assembly AAP has 92 MLAs. AAP also has two lawmakers in Goa.

Singh will be fighting the election against the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate Droupadi Murmu on July 18. The counting of votes will take place on July 21.

BJP-led NDA is expected to get support for Draupadi Murmu from regional parities like BJD, YSR Congress, Biji Janta Dal, Bahujan Samaj Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, Shiv Sena. The share of all the mentioned parties has crossed the vote share of Ms Murmu to 60 per cent.
