AAP Wins Delhi MCD Polls 2022: End of BJP’s 15-year-long rule in the city’s civic body

As the counting began in the morning, both the BJP and AAP hoped for the best and claimed they will be winning it.

New Delhi:  The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today won the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections as the party crossed the halfway mark gaining a majority in the MCD Election, this resulted at the end of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 15-year-long rule in the city’s civic body.

According to the latest data shared by the Election Commission, the AAP won 134, BJP won 104, Congress 9, and Others 3 out of 250 wards.

The counting of votes for Delhi’s MCD Election was held at 42 centres across Delhi, counting began at 8 am.

Soon celebrations started in front of the AAP’s office where workers and supporters were seen dancing and chanting slogans praising party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

When the counting for the Delhi MCD Election started in the morning at 8 am, BJP was seen leading in the initial trends for nearly one and a half hour initially, however, the trends started changing as AAP gained the lead and maintained it till the final results were declared.

As the counting began in the morning, both the BJP and AAP hoped for the best and claimed they will be winning it.

Voting for Delhi MCD Election for 250 wards was conducted on December 4 (Sunday) where around 50 percent voter turnout.

This was the first civic election which was conducted after the fresh delimitation exercise. Earlier, there were 272 wards in Delhi and three corporations – EDMC, NDMC and SDMC from 2012-2022 that it reunified into MCD had formally come into existence on May 22.
