New Delhi: Jaya Bachchan, Samajwadi Party MP got upset over alleged “personal” attack against her by a member of the House when she was speaking during a discussion on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2021. Initially, she also accused blamed the Chair, presided over by Bhuwaneswar Kalitha for not listening to the opposition.

The Opposition was raising the issue on the 12 suspended Opposition members from Rajya Sabha.

“I don’t want to thank you. You should be fair and not support any particular party,” Jaya Bachchan pointed out to Kalitha. Further, she stated that Kalitha used to protest in the Well of the House.

Following this, BJP MP Rakesh Sinha stood up and objected against her statement towards the Chair after which a war of words started her and treasury branches.

The Chair allowed her to speak about the narcotics subject again. “We want justice. Can we expect justice?… What’s going on? There are so many issues we are discussing over a bill which is brought by the government to correct its mistake… Aap gala ghont dijiye hum sabka (go ahead and strangle us). This is terrible,” Bachchan said.

Targeting the treasury branches, Bachchan said, “Aapke bure din bohot jaldi aane vale hain” (your bad days are coming soon). I curse you.”

As BJP MP Rakesh Sinha raised the point of order alleging Bachchan of pointing the Chair, a verbal spat started. She also wanted the Chair to take action against members, accusing him of making “personal remarks” against her.

“I don’t want to make any personal comments on anyone. Whatever has happened was unfortunate. They should not have spoken the way they did. This got me very upset,” she told media outside Rajya Sabha.

On the other hand, the Chair adjourned the Rajya Sabha till Tuesday.
