After freebies, politics of blamegame? AAP CM wants Modi govt’s support for fulfilling promises; Twitter erupts

Punjab Chief Minister pleading before the Centre for financial package has kicked off a storm on the social media.

New Delhi: Days after taking oath of office, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Prime Minister Narendra Mod in Delhi and sought a package of Rs 50,000 crore for two years, citing state’s ‘pitiable’ financial condition.

After meeting PM Modi, Mann said, “Punjab’s financial condition is in doldrums. We’ve demanded Rs 50,000 crores package per year for 2 years to improve state’s financial situation.”

Punjab Chief Minister pleading before the Centre for financial package has kicked off a storm on the social media. It has also raised many questions over AAP’s governance model. During elections, Arvind Kejriwal-led party went overboard in reaching out to the electorate and didn’t refrain from making tall promises.

From free electricity to free power to allocation of Rs 1,000/- to all eligible women, the list of freebie promises by AAP leaders went on and on. At no point of time, AAP CM candidate or the party supremo admitted during campaign that it would be a colossal task to achieve.

Today, after Bhagwant Mann sought Rs 50,000 crore package for 2 years from Centre, netizens are taking potshots at the AAP’s ‘Punjab model’.

‘No hiccups like Delhi, then why blamegame politics’

Mann dispensation has come under direct criticism after it blamed previous Congress regime for ‘creaking’ exchequer of Punjab. Netizens are asking why the AAP govt is now blaming on the financial woes of state, was it not aware of lack of funds, when it made series of promises.

“In Delhi, AAP govt has reasons to target Modi govt for inadequacies in the capital, but what’s making them wash hands off from responsibilities in Punjab,” a user asked.

Many users have also questioned AAP govt’s opulent expenditures on TV advertisements and money-intensive preparations for Mann cabinet swearing-in. According to reports, the AAP government had given Rs 6 crore advertisement to regional channels for broadcasting Mann’s oath ceremony on TV.
