New Delhi: Hours after Supreme Court hauled Punjab & Delhi government over the coals on repeated instances of stubble burning, leading to ‘very poor’ quality in the Delhi-NCR, Haryana Chief Minster Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday tore into two state governments for not following the guidelines and rather glossing over multiple incidents of burning agricultural wastes.
Chief Minister Manohar Khattar also thanked the Apex Court for citing Haryana as an example on how to curb stubble burning in other states. He also extended gratitude to state farmers for contributing in the ‘drive against air pollution’.
The Chief Minister also informed that the area for paddy cultivation in the state has significantly gone down and said that the farmers deserve applause for following the appeal & contributing in ‘cleanlinesss drive’.
He said that Haryana govt has taken multiple measures to bring an end to stubble burning, including incentivizing steps to dispose agricultural residues.

Khattar’s dig at Punjab govt
Haryana CM then lambasted into Punjab & Delhi governments over their dilly-dallying tactics in fighting falling air quality in Delhi and appealed to them not to politicize the matter of stubble burning.
Backing the views of court, Khattar said that Punjab govt should ‘take cue from Haryana’ and extend them to their farmers too to bring an end to toxic practice.
He also asked Delhi govt to follow standard mechanism of combatting dipping air quality rather than pointing fingers at others. He said that the respective govts must dissociate themselves from doing politics and rather contribute towards issues of national importance.
Khattar said that Punjab government should ‘replicate’ steps taken by Haryana govt , impose restrictions on stubble burning and provide incentives wherever needed to stop this practice and eventually helping farmers in switching to alternate ways of crop production.
