Ahead of PM Modi’s state visit, ‘excited’ US Congressmen count the advantages of Indo-US ties

A couple of members of the US Congress have spoken about the importance of PM Modi’s visit and also aired their views on why India & US ‘need each other’ in the new global order.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming tour to United States is being seen as one of the biggest talked about diplomatic visits of 2023. PM Modi will be travelling to US for ‘state visit’ from June 21 to June 24 and will have a packed schedule with lot many events including ceremonial reception, address to joint sitting of US Congress, banquet at White House is planned.

Joe Biden administration has pulled out all stops to make PM Modi’s visit to US, a grand affair and is set to host many marquee events from June 21 & June 23.

US Cong members upbeat about PM Modi’s visit

PM Modi’s state visit to US assumes great importance in light of chanding world dynamics and geopolitics involving the Indian sub-continent. However, the United States saddled with slowing economy is looking forward to close ties with India on back of its immense economic potential.

A couple of members of the US Congress have spoken about the importance of PM Modi’s visit and also aired their views on why India & US ‘need each other’ in the new global order.

Georgia Congressman Richard McCormick said that many are yet to realize the importance of India.

“India’s numbers, amount of industrial base & production base, is comparable to China, plus it’s a much more friendly nation. A country which is following the WTO rules rather than breaking them. That’s the kind of partner we need,” said Richard McCormick, US House of Representatives, Congressman from Georgia

Buddy Carter, another Congressman from Georgia emphasized that India & US relations are among the most important in the world.

Sheila Jackson Lee, a US Congress woman said that she was looking forward to PM Modi’s address of the joint sitting of Congress.

“Congress will look forward to the state address that PM Modi will make in the US Congress. We will be attentive & we will look forward to all of the solutions that we can make together,” said Sheila Jackson Lee, US Congresswoman.

For the unversed, this would be the second time that PM Modi will be addressing the joint sitting. He addressed the US Congress for first time in 2016 and it became a global talking point.

Indian Americans are also elated & overjoyed about PM Modi’s first state visit to the country. A lot many Indian Aemricans are getting ready to welcome him on the US soil. Thousands of Indians will gather in Washington as US President Joe Biden & first lady Jill Biden welcomes him.
