Ahmedabad gears up for Metro ride, 6.5 km long twin tunnels completed under Phase-I

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani tweeted about this achievement and also applauded the Indian engineering skills.

New Delhi: Out of Phase-I of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, work has been completed on a 6.5 km long Apparel Park to Shahpur(upto Sabarmati River) upline and downline twin underground tunnel. The completion of this highly specialized 5.8 diameters underground tunnel by Indian engineers and Indian company using special machinery at the time of lockdown and in the midst of Corona epidemic is a historic achievement in the field of engineering for Gujarat, said Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Congratulating the engineers for the successful completion of this work in a densely populated area of Ahmedabad city known as a World Heritage City, the Chief Minister said that the average depth of this tunnel is 18 meters below the ground level and the work includes 3.3 lakh cubic meters of soil removal, 52300 cubic meters of Concrete, about 2 lakh man-days and 4000 concrete ring support system have been utilized.

He added that, in order to expedite the work of this tunnel, skilled workers from Odisha were brought back by air who migrated due to Corona epidemic.

The Chief Minister tweeted about this achievement and applauded the Indian engineering skills. It may be mentioned here that the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project-Tunnel is being continuously monitored through the CM Dashboard.
