New Delhi: At least 6 people were reportedly charred to death in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad after major blaze broke out at a textile godown in Ganeshnagar locality near Pirana dumping yard in the city.
According to reports, the godown storing chemicals collapsed after a powerful explosion ripped through it. The fire was so intense that victims couldn’t escape from the godown.
The fire apparently broke out probably due to electricity short circuit or by spark of bidi or cigarette. After fire broke out, 12 people were rescued from godown.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the loss of lives in fire tragedy.
“Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire in a godown in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers with the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected”, Modi tweeted.
