New Delhi: Following the violent skirmishes at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which resulted in 20 Indian soldiers losing their lives, has triggered clamour for boycotting Chinese goods and products across the country.

In the latest fallout of Beijing’s betrayal at the LAC, the Indian Railways on Thursday terminated a contract with a Chinese company worth Rs 471 crore.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (FCCIL), which falls under the Ministry of Railways, said the contract was being terminated with the Chinese company due to ‘poor progress’ on the signalling and telecommunication work on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor’s 417-km section between Kanpur and Mughalsarai.

The Chinese firm was awarded the contract awarded in June 2016 for Signalling & Telecommunication work worth Rs 471 crore in Kanpur-Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) section for 417 kms. The contract cost was funded through a loan from the World Bank.

The project was supposed to be completed by 2019 but only 20 percent of the work has been completed so far, the Railways said.

The DFCCIL is a state-run agency under the Railway Ministry set up to undertake planning and development, mobilisation of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the dedicated freight corridors.
