All India Judges Association condemns attempt to denigrate Justice Chandrachud, says allegations ‘false & frivolous’

The AIJA members expressed shock and surprise over the baseless & scurrilous statement made by some fringe elements, which allegedly have history of committing contempt of court.

New Delhi: The All India Judges Assocation (AIJA) has unanimously condemned a malicious attempt by ‘fringe elements’ to malign Dr Justice D Y Chandrachud and called out Mr RK Pathan for making false & frivolous allegations.

In a virtual meeting on Tuesday, the Executive Committee of AIJA unanimously passed a resolution to strongly condemn an attempt to denigrate Dr Justice DY Chandrachud.

In the resolution made public by General Secretary Dr Ajay Nathani, the AIJA said that the judges of District Judiciary hold Justice D.Y. Chandrachud in high esteem and get inspiration from his observations in various judgments and speeches touching on all aspects of principles of justice, liberty & equality as envisaged in the Constitution of India.

The AIJA members expressed shock and surprise over the baseless & scurrilous statement made by some fringe elements, which allegedly have history of committing contempt of court.

It said that that the frivolous allegations are nothing but an effort to sully & tarnish the image of whole judiciary. By making disrespectful & derogatory statements against the sitting judge of Supreme Court of India, it has sought to portray the Apex court in ‘bad light’.

The timing of allegations also raises question mark as it comes at a time when Justice Chandrachud is likely to be elevated as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI).

Condemning the allegations of Mr Pathan & 2 others in strongest terms, the AIJA said that such attempts will not deter Hon’ble Justice from continuing his unhindered task of protecting the dignity of strong justice delivery system of India and Fundamental Rights of citizens of India through his comprehensive, intelligent and sagacious judgments.
