All India Muslim Board announces launch of new campaign to prevent forceful dealing of dowry

This campaign has been launched in five states including Maharashtra and Telangana. This comes days after a woman named Ayesha from Ahmedabad committed suicide by drowning in Sabarmati river.

New Delhi: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) announced the launch of a new campaign to make the marriages easy and simple and to prevent unnecessary ceremonies and customs. The other main motive is to protect the daughters and daughter-in-laws from oppression and dowry demands.

AIMPLB tweeted informing about the same, they also said that Ulama and Qazis will not attend such marriages where there will be forced dealing of dowry. These steps were being taken to ensure the safety of daughters. This campaign has been launched in five states including Maharashtra and Telangana.

This comes days after a woman named Ayesha from Ahmedabad committed suicide by drowning in Sabarmati river. Before jumping she made a video in which she asked her father to drop the case of domestic violence against her husband and in-laws. It was later revealed that her husband and in-laws used to hit and oppress her for dowry. The video caused a lot of stir in the society and her husband was also arrested.
