New Delhi: As the Russia-Ukraine war rages on, there are ample instances of migrant students from India and Pakistan taking shelter in godowns, basement of building & other safe places. Many students have are also waiting in cramped spaces at the border while seeking help from the respective embassies.
While respective countries took on the mission to airlift stranded students from the war zone, Indian government’s rescue endeavour is being targeted by Pakistani propagandists. Many Pak based Twitter handles are mocking Indian rescue mission by posting videos of distressed students & also edited clips to malign India’s rescue operation.
This comes at a time when Pakistan government has itself come under intense scrutiny for leaving its own nationals in the lurch. Pak PM Imran Khan’s visit to Russia amid the invasion while Pakistani students running for safety in Ukraine was mocked & decried by its own citizens. In a bid to save its face from further ignominy, a co-ordinated smear campaign was launched to tarnish India’s image.
These Pakistani Twitter handles are exaggerating plight of Indian students on social media with sole purpose of maligning India’s image. Tweets from Pakistani handles have also garnered about 12 million impressions in past 24 hours. The handles are mostly fake accounts with very few followers & used only for propaganda purposes.
Indian students beaten up by Ukrainian forces
Videos of distress calls by a couple of students also went viral over social media, with people expressing concerns over their safety. Recently, a group of Indian students were manhandled and roughed up by the Ukrainian security personnel as India didn’t condemn Russian invasion in the UN Security Council. Students claimed that they were beaten up & thrashed and their phones snatched by the forces.
