Congressman’s son Anil K Antony had quit the grand old party after denouncing the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi & his political life, spanning from his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister.

New Delhi: Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader and Defence Minister in UPA government AK Antony, is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), TV reports said.

He is likely to address a press conference in the day, sources said.

Antony’s tweet that led to his ouster

Anil Antony’s tweet, in support of PM Modi created a flutter in Congress circles as party saw a big opportunity in the controversial BBC documentary and also sharpened its fangs to corner the Modi govt.

Taking objection to ‘foreign interference’ in domestic matters, Anil Antony had rebuked the BBC & also its documentary but this backfired & his own partymen started pestering him.

Antony revealed that he was being asked to retract his tweet, which he refused.

“I have resigned from my roles in @incindia @INCKerala. Intolerant calls to retract a tweet,by those fighting for free speech.I refused. @facebook wall of hate/abuses by ones supporting a trek to promote love! Hypocrisy thy name is! Life goes on,” he had tweeted while also sharing his resignation letter from Congress.

Anil Antony’s tweet made Cong uncomfortable

Soon after the BBC releasing its documentary on Modi’s political life including 2002 Gujarat riots, Anil Antony had called out the British corporation & also his own partymen, terming it a ‘dangerous precedence’ for giving the BBC an upper hand over Indian institutions.

He also called BBC a state-sponsored channel with a “long history of prejudices against India.”
