AP: Chandrababu Naidu weeps at press meet, vows not to come to Assembly before becoming CM (VIDEO)

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu breaks down during a press conference while he walked out of the state assembly promising not to re-enter the House for the rest of the term.

New Delhi: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday broke down during a press conference. Driven to tears over the affront, he walked out of the state assembly promising not to re-enter the House for the rest of the term. He said that he was deeply hurt over YS Jagan-led party, YSR Congress making abusive comments over him and his wife.

“I will not attend this assembly hereafter. I will return to the House only after becoming the chief minister,” said Naidu. The 71-year-old held back tears before walking out of the assembly with folded hands during a discussion on women empowerment on the second day of the assembly’s present winter session.

Naidu was unable to speak for a few minutes after shedding tears and covering his face with his hand at the press conference held at his Telegu Desam Party (TDP)’s state headquarters. He stated that his wife has never been in politics still her name is being dragged in the dirty politics blame game.

“Except encouraging me in every step of my life, she never interfered in politics, whether I was in or out of power. Yet they tried to humiliate her,” he said. Further adding, he said that he never felt so distress in his 40 years long career. “I faced several struggles, ups, and downs in my life. I witnessed several heated debates in the assembly both when he was in power or in the opposition. But this kind of running down the opposition is unprecedented.”

Naidu compared the assembly to Kaurava Sabha of the epic Mahabharata, where Kauravas insulted Pandavas by trying to disrobe Draupadi.

“What is more unfortunate is that the Speaker remained a mute spectator when the ruling party members were hurling abuses, even dragging my wife’s name. He did not even give me an opportunity to speak and make a statement on my decision to stay away from the assembly for the rest of the term. I had to fight for my right,” he said.

Earlier today, TDP legislators tried to oppose when YSRCP member Ambati Rambabu was attacking the opposition party. TDP members rushed to the podium in protest and demanded an immediate apology from him when Rambabu allegedly made unpleasant comments while referring to Naidu’s wife. Other YSRCP members also stormed to the podium and clashed with the TDP members, following which, Naidu left the House.
