Assam Earthquake: PM Modi talks to CM Sarbananda Sonowal, assures all possible help from Centre

New Delhi: PM Modi has taken stock of the damage due to the earthquake over phone with Assam Chief Minister and has assured all support to Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday urged citizens to stay alert after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Assam’s Sonitpur.

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Assam CM and assessed the condition in different parts of the state after an earthquake.

This comes after an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale hit Sonitpur, Assam today at 7:51 AM.

Three back-to-back earthquakes hit Assam, strongest being of 6.4 magnitude. Tremors were felt in Meghalaya, north Bengal, said.

“Big earthquake hits Assam. I pray for the well-being of all and urge everyone to stay alert. Taking updates from all districts: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal,” Assam CM said in a tweet. A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Sonitpur,

According to the NCS, the quake occurred at 7:51 am. The epicentre of the quake was 43 km west of Tezpur at a depth of 17 kilometers.
