New Delhi: At a time when the nation is united and staying inside their homes to contain the spread of Coronvirus, any violation of lockdown norms will not only weaken the fight against Covid-19 but will also put lives at grave risk.

Prime Minister has been repeatedly appealing to practice social distancing and adhere to govt guidelines on lockdown but what message does it send when the norms are openly flouted at an elected BJP leader’s office.

At Delhi BJP councilor Gunjan Gupta’s office in Vigyan Vihar today, lockdown and social distancing went for a toss when hundreds of people assembled for collecting masks & gloves. Though one may argue that it was a good initiative to help the deprived & needy in fighting the pandemic, but such disregard for social distancing will only endanger their lives rather than safeguarding it.

As seen in the video, it was a complete chaotic situation with people rubbing their shoulders and not maintaining even an arm’s length.

BJP councilor’s doublespeak on Stay Home, Stay Safe

The BJP Councillor, though has made video appeals, on her FB/Twitter accounts, to people to ‘stay home, stay safe’.

“If you think it won’t happen to you, it’s your mistake. Prime Minister has set out clear measures to fight Covid-19 but our contribution is very important in getting rid of this pandemic. Stay in homes, desist others from visiting your house,” Gunjan Gupta said in her FB post on April 21.

But, three days later i.e. on April 24, there is such disregard for lockdown and social distancing at the councillor’s office. It is clearly uncalled for, especially at a time when we need to escalate our drive against Coronavirus.

The general public if caught flouting the rules, either b/c of awareness or due to ignorance are counseled, punished by the police but what can be done when the educated and elected feign ignorance and take the law for a ride.
