At ED quizzing, Rahul said ‘Late Motilal Vora responsible for all AJL transactions’: Report

Rahul maintains that he didn’t have any information of the transactions and it was party ex-treasurer Motilal Vora who oversaw & took note of the transactions. Vora died in December 2000.

New Delhi: The marathon grilling of Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials hasn’t yielded much yet, however, the Congress leader’s claim on late Motilal Vora has sparked row.

According to reports, Rahul when quizzed by th ED sleuths over alleged misappropriation of funds in connection with Young India, he told investigators that it was Congress leader Motilal vora who oversaw all the transcations related to Young India-Associated Journals Limited (AJL) deal.

Rahul said this while referring to acquisition of AJL’s assets (running into crores) by the Young India, in which he and mother Sonia Gandhi are promoters.

Quizzed multiple times over the issue, the Congress leader maintained that he didn’t have any information of the transactions and it was party ex-treasurer Motilal Vora who oversaw & took note of the transactions. Vora died in December 2000.

Rahul and Sonia Gandhi together hold about 76% stake in Young India, the company which is in the eye of storm over alleged financial irregularities during transfer of National Herald’s owernship from AJL. The remaining 24% stake was held by Motillal Vora & Oscar Fernandes. Both Vora and Fernandes passed away in December 2020 and September 2021, respectively.

Rahul Gandhi has continously denied having any knowledge about the transactions including loans & accomodation entry.

Rahul Gandhi summoned for 4th time on Friday

The ED, which questioned Rahul Gandhi for three consecutive days starting Monday, has asked the Congress leader to appear before it again on Friday.

Rahul has been very cautious about his answers and also ‘evasive’ on many issues, prompting agencies to summon him for the fourth time for questioning on June 17.

Congress maintains that the Centre is doing gross misuse of central agencies by unleashing them on Opposition leaders. The party calls it a witchhunt and the ED probe a ‘bogus’ investigation. Many party leaders are protesting at many places across the country against interrogation of Rahul Gandhi in National Herald case.
