Atiq & brother Ashraf’s killers shifted to Pratapgarh jail for security reasons

Police decided to transfer them from Prayagraj to Pratapgarh, over intel reports that the trio could be attacked by Atiq Ahmed’s supporters or his gunners gang.

New Delhi: The three killers who shot dead gangster-turned politician Atiq Ahmed & his brother Ashraf while the latter were being taken for medical check-up at Prayaraj medical college, have been shifted from Naini jail to Pratapgarh district jail, UP police said on Monday.

The transfer of trio namely Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh & Arun Maurya to another prison came on back of security concerns. They were sent into 14 days judicial custody by a district court on Sunday.

Police decided to transfer them from Prayagraj to Pratapgarh, over intel reports that the trio could be attacked by Atiq Ahmed’s supporters or his gunners gang.

All three accused will be kept in isolation and will be monitored by senior jail officials.

Atiq hit by 9 bullets, Ashraf hit by 5

Meanwhile, the autopsy report of Ahmed brothers reveal that Atiq Ahmed & his brother both died of bullet injuries. Atiq was hit by 9 bullets while brother Ashraf received 5 bullet wounds. Atiq was hit by bullet on his chest & head while brother Ashraf was hit by bullet on his face & back.

While Atiq & Ashraf were speaking to mediapersons, two shooters pounced on former while one shooter targeted Ashraf from behind. The duo handcuffed together fell down and reportedly died at the spot.

The post-mortem report comes a day after the killing of gangster & his brother by three men who dared to break police cordon & pumped bullets into them. The accused named as Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh & Arun Maurya masqueraded as journalists and opened fire at opportune moment. They later confessed of their conspiracy and said they wanted to create a name for themselves by killing the criminals.

Zigana pistols, the sophisticated weapon was used for killing Atiq & his brother Ashral. The same Turkey-made pistol was used by Atiq’s son Asad during encounter with UP STF. These pistols, costing around Rs 6-7 lakh, are banned in India. How these criminals got hold of this semi-automatic pistol is also a priority area of police investigation.
