New Delhi: A suicide video shot by a 23-year-old woman Ayesha, before she jumped into the Sabarmati river almost a year ago, had created an uproar on social media. The police investigation had revealed various harassment angles in the case including dowry, mental abuse, and more.

Now, the Ahmedabad Sessions Court in Gujarat has sentenced the accused husband named Arif to 10 years in the suicide case. Arif was arrested from Rajasthan’s Pali last year after Ayesha’s video went viral on social media.

In the viral video which was recorded on February 25, 2021, Ayesha had recorded a message for the world before committing suicide, wherein she had said that “she is not doing anything out of pressure and she is glad she will meet Allah”.

After paying her last goodbyes and sending the video to her family, Ayesha jumped off the bridge into the river.

After Ayesha’s death, certain heartwrenching facts from her marriage were revealed. Ayesha Banu Makrani (23) was married to Aarif Khan Gafurji and was living with him in Ahmedabad.

The victim was constantly being abused for dowry, while her husband Arif was also in an extramarital affair with a woman from Rajasthan. Arif used to video call her girlfriend in Ayesha’s presence and was engaged in obscene talks with her. The circumstances have led to a depressing marriage relationship for Ayesha, who chose to stay mum on the injustice with her.

Further, Ayesha also had to go through a miscarriage while she was depressed because of Arif’s behavior, as the child had died in her womb.

Ayesha’s lawyer Zaffar Pathan had also informed “Arif used to ignore his wife and splurge on girlfriend. And, for meeting his expenses, he used to threaten Ayesha’s parents. At times, he also forcefully took money from his in-laws”.
