New Delhi: Some unidentified miscreants vandalised the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Katrenipadu village of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, “The miscreants broke the nose and ear of Ambedkar’s statue late last night. The local Dalit unions noticed the vandalised statue this morning.”
Local Dalit unions also launched and agitation against the defacing of statue and filed a complaint regarding thi.s
“Case will be lodged and investigation will be done to nab the culprit, said Krishnamachari, sub-inspector, Razole Mandal.
There have been several incidents in the past, when statues of Dr B R Ambedkar has been damaged in several parts of the country.
In August 2019, a statue of Dr Ambedkar was vandalised in Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu. The statue was damaged following a clash between two groups.
In August 2020, a statue of Babasaheb Bhimarao Ambedkar was vandalised in Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh, triggering wide uproar and outrage among locals.
