Babul Supriyo, who switched from BJP to TMC, is candidate in by-polls, trolled for donning skull cap

Mamata Banerjee-led TMC announced his candidature from Ballygunge Assembly seat, where he will lock horns with BJP nominee Keya Ghosh

New Delhi: Babul Supriyo, former minister in the BJP-led NDA government at Centre, is set to contest by-elections in Bengal on a TMC ticket.

Mamata Banerjee-led TMC announced his candidature from Ballygunge Assembly seat, where he will lock horns with BJP nominee Keya Ghosh. Another heavyweight fighting by-polls on TMC ticket is Shatrughan Sinha, who will contest from Asansol as the seat turned empty after Babul quit this seat before jumping over to TMC.

High-voltage campaign is set to get underway soon for Lok Sabha & Assembly election in Bengal. And, Supriyo has already hit the electoral arena by reaching out to various communities & cross-section of people.

Meanwhile, a photo of Babul Supriyo in skull cap is viral on the social media, eliciting strong responses & funny jibes from the netizens.

Many are taking jibes at the former BJP leader, who was once seen with saffron politics but is now aligning with Muslim community for votes.

Here is how social media reacted:

Babul Supriyo, often trolled for switching camps, has said that his decision to quit BJP was because of politics of hatred, divisiveness (in the saffron party).

“I could no longer reconcile to such brand of politics”, he says.

Supriyo served as Minister in the Modi government but last September, he snapped ties with the BJP and switched over to Mamata-led Trinamool Congress for being ‘ignored & left off’ in decision making process. While leaving the BJP, he had said that he felt betrayed by the party leadership in Bengal.
